Who we are

hum audio (“hum”, “we”) is a hearing health brand based in Los Angeles. These terms cover hum.audio, the hum sound meter, the hum study, the pledge, the ambassador program and the waitlist. Questions: hear@hum.audio.

The sound meter is an estimate

The hum sound meter uses your device’s microphone, which is not a calibrated instrument. Readings may differ from a professional sound level meter by ±5 dB or more and are for general awareness only.

Do not use it for medical, legal, workplace safety (OSHA) or regulatory compliance decisions. Safe-exposure times are general estimates based on NIOSH guidance. Protected-level estimates use the NRR you enter and the OSHA derating method; real protection depends on fit and use.

Nothing on this site is medical advice. If you have ringing in your ears, muffled hearing or other concerns, see an audiologist or doctor.

Product claims

hum’s first earplugs are in development. Their acoustic performance will be published only after independent testing.

What we collect

Sound: processed on your device. Audio is never recorded, stored or sent to us.

hum study: if you add a reading, we store only the sound level, peak, duration, room type and the school or city you type — no names or emails.

Pledge: we store an anonymous count only.

Waitlist / movement: your email, the time you agreed to these terms, whether you confirmed you’re 13+ (or have a parent’s permission), your language and which page you signed up on.

Ambassadors: first name, role, email, school and the same consent details.

How we use it

We use emails only to send hum updates, launch news, hearing tips and ambassador information. Study readings may be shared in aggregate (for example, average levels by room type) without anything that identifies you. We don’t sell your information. Unsubscribe anytime using the link in any email, or write to hear@hum.audio to have your details deleted.

Under 13

If you are under 13, please get a parent’s or guardian’s permission before signing up. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 without that permission.

Your use of the site

Please don’t misuse the site or its forms (for example, by submitting false or automated entries). We may remove entries that look abusive. The site is provided as is, and to the extent the law allows, hum isn’t liable for decisions made based on meter readings.

Changes
